The European ash is devastated by the Ash dieback disease, caused by Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, a fungus originated in Asia. Younger trees succumb quickly to the disease and the adults wither more slowly but very few maintain a satisfactory health. Researchers from INRAE have developed a model to predict the disease spread over the next decade. When spotting infected trees in a plot, this model can estimate the percentage of crown dieback that is to be expected in the following years.
